When i read a self-development book, i don't rush myself to implement everything written in here. First i need to believe it and agree with ideas and opinions sharing with me by writer, filter it through my own viewpoint. Then reflect on my situation and environment, so many other aspects that made writer think different from me. After that, maybe i would start considering what could be benefit out of the implementation of some of the ideas. In end, we should remind ourselves that this book is not a holy bible written by God that we have follow the every step of it, it is another human being's idea and opinion, creation. So anyway, let's start with this book. Hmmm This book reminded me of many things i already know but forgot about that for a while. Maybe you could also find answer in it or remind yourself that you might have forgotten for a while.
Book itself gives a kind of advice for not only
entrepreneur, but also people those who takes so much time by doubting in
decision making process, and it powerfully presses on the point of basis of a
successful organization.
Overall, the book gives you a clear advice to find
your "why."
Why-how-what
Living with a reason,
Working for meaning,
Worshiping with a right method,
Cooperating with a right people...LET'S BE HONEST
WITH OURSELVES. you know and feel that every book which is written by a successful
person doesn't give a right advice to you. Advice just doesn't fit my culture,
value, my country or my environment at all. Despite this as we filter it
through our mindset, we can make benefit out of it.
A book itself is a great source of finding amateur
methods for marketer in my opinion. Interestingly a book goes against simple
rule of marketing which is to make marketing research before producing products
or make sales. It advises you to stick with your "why" continouosly
in order to reach the wanted result. Marketing is all about influencing
decision making through changing behavior. But of course, the book offers
useful advice and ideas not only in marketing field, but also for personal life
or organizational life generally.
How to produce a lasting success?
It says that there only 2 possible ways to
change human's behavior which are either to manipulate it or to inspire it. How
does person get inspired ? How do you get inspired?
1. ... If you want to stay inspired through whole way, it is important to stick with what you strongly believe. Don't let this belief in values of yours to be shaken under affect of others' opinion, money and fame. If you
want to inspire others, always communicate your why first.
2. ...Excited
employees are the best resource for any business. When i go to work every morning, do i feel like a part of organization which are pursuing after a great change, creating a positive difference in Mongolia's society, contribution to socia-economy ? Or am i just going to work as thinking of it as instrument to earn money ? if it is made at same time, how great it would be...But it doesn't always. Sometimes, situation makes you choose between them. But strongly believing in long term result for yourself when you can't see or feel it is a kind of challenging for my patience and ambition...but there is always way to turn things around advantageously for yourself if you try hard i guess.

...People don't buy your "how", they buy
your "why." When you try to find your why, don't be too
influenced by peer pressure that arises question that , manipulation such as
money, appraisal of others and so on. Hmmm, let me think for a moment. To be
true, there are no one who doesn't want to earn good with what they can do
using their how. Maybe after earning so good for a long term, the one might
find this money value a kind of depreciating and might look for another values
such feeling of belonging or need of being loved by everyone which is fame. Hey
doesn't it remind you " Maslow's hierarchy of needs"?
Of course, i want to find my "why" at
the beginning of entire road which might end up in the dead end street or
before i get lost or i regret for my entire existence through the road. i don't
want to be the one when i end up in the dead end street in my career or my life
when i reached to the middle aged woman. While i am young, i want to start it
right. That's why i am on the journey of finding my why even before my needs
are meet in accordance with Maslow's hierarchy of needs. I believe that it is
to be quite true in one's life. But you see that journey to finding your
"why" is a high privilege and sometimes situation and condition
don't allow you to wander around for too long.
...When you're truly trust and believe in something,
you can communicate about it confidently and in an inspiring way that bears
a leader naturally.
Why: Very few people or companies can clearly articulate why they do what
they do. This isn’t about running a profitable company—that’s a result. Why is
all about your purpose. Why does your company exist? Why do you get out of bed
in the morning? And why should anyone care?
How: Some people and
companies know how they do what they do. Whether you call them a
‘’differentiating value proposition’’ or a ‘’unique selling proposition,’’ HOWs
are often given to explain how something is different or better.
What: Every single
company on the planet knows what they do. This is true no matter how big or
small the company is, or no matter what industry they belong to. Everyone can
easily describe the products or services their company sells or the job
function they have within the company.
When we start with “Why”,
we go from the inside out of the circle. “Why” is the reason to buy and the
“Whats” merely represent the tangible products as a proof of that belief.
“Whats” are the reasons we can point to rationalize why we so much like a
company over another.
Mmm i agree with that having a clear vision
and goal in the organization makes it successful. Having a clear vision and
concrete "why" to start any important decision in life or work or a
project in one's life helps that person to accomplish it persistently till the
end and finish it successfully. Goals that based on the values such as "
being to true to yourself", "honesty", "loyalty",
"integration", "authenticity that actions and words overlap in a
real life", " being pride in what you are doing", " being
proud in front of your loved ones", " being competent enough to take
care of yourself"," helping other people", " feeling good
by helping and contributing to the society", " to be part of creating
something great and enormous", "being independent", "
having freedom", " being part of a great and good goal of the
organization, feeling like belonging to there, being proud in your
work"...
whatever the value, goals and vision should be
based on that.
Goals and vision should be pursued with those
who're loyal and seeing your "why."
Once you see the "why", i am sure that
"how" is not big problem at all.
Sinek talks about companies which have
lost sight of their original “Why.” Take the example of Volkswagen and Walmart.
Volkswagen literally means “car of the people” and its image has always been
that of reliable, affordable cars for everyone. The original VW Beetle was a
cheerful symbol of freedom and a simple, carefree life. So when they introduced
the super-expensive, $70,000 VW Phaeton, that flew against their own “Why” and
sold nothing.
Walmart was a more serious case.
Walmart was started by Sam Walton with the idea of helping people and
communities by providing products at low prices. However, after the death of
its founders, the company focused only on low prices, forgetting about helping
people and the communities they entered. It ended up becoming a cutthroat
business towards its suppliers, employees and the communities it was a part of.
Walmart got into serious trouble when it lost its initial “Why.”
Sinek says that gaining a clarity of
“Why” is not the hardest part. The hardest part is the discipline to trust
one’s gut over outside advice and to stay true to your cause or belief.
An Idea. That’s probably where every
company starts. At the beginning, ideas are
fueled by passion. That very compelling emotion that sometimes causes us to do irrational things.
fueled by passion. That very compelling emotion that sometimes causes us to do irrational things.
When you’re up against the world,
competing with everyone else, no one wants to help you. But when you compete
against yourself, everyone wants to help you.
Now let’s think about how we do
business. We’re always competing against someone else. Better quality. More
features. Better service. We’re always comparing ourselves to the competition.
And no one wants to help us.
What if we showed up to work every
single day to be better than ourselves? For no better reason than to want to
leave the organization in a better state than we found it?
All organizations start with “Why”, but
only the great ones keep their “Why” clear year after year. Those who forget
“Why” they were founded show up to the race every day to outdo someone else
instead of outdoing themselves.
You are your best competition.
But for passion to thrive and
survive, it also needs structures and “Hows.” Most companies fail because both
“Hows” and “Whys” need each other.
